No Fish For You!

>> March 10, 2010

In another "historic" and "unprecidented" signal yesterday, the Obamachine seems poised to mow down another bit of American Sovereignty. - The right to catch our own fish, or as it's known in some parts of the world, food!

From ESPN:

The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing some of the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters...
emphasis added
"In spite of what we hear daily in the press about the President's concern for jobs and the economy and contrary to what he stated in the June order creating this process, we have seen no evidence from NOAA or the task force that recreational fishing and related jobs are receiving any priority."

Led by NOAA's Jane Lubchenco, the task force has shown no overt dislike of recreational angling, but its indifference to the economic, social and biological value of the sport has been deafening.

Additionally, Lubchenco and others in the administration have close ties to environmental groups who would like nothing better than to ban recreational angling. And evidence suggests that these organizations have been the engine behind the task force since before Obama issued a memo creating it last June.
As more evidence of collusion, the green groups began clamoring for an Executive Order to implement the task force's recommendations even before the public comment period ended in February. Fishing advocates had no idea that this was coming.

Perhaps not so coincidentally, the New York Times reported on Feb. 12 that "President Obama and his team are preparing an array of actions using his executive power to advance energy, environmental, fiscal and other domestic policy priorities."

Morlock fears that "what we're seeing coming at us is an attempted dismantling of the science-based fish and wildlife model that has served us so well. There's no basis in science for the agendas of these groups who are trying to push the public out of being able to fish and recreate."Conflicts (user) are overstated and problems are manufactured. It's all just an excuse to put us off the water."

I know the answer and yet, I still find myself asking: "Who are these people? What freakin' planet did they come from?"

Lord help us.

Puts a whole new twist to the maxim "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach a man to fish........" what, you both will get three squares and a cot ?

Yea. You got a point there. Teach a man to fish and the gov't feeds him for a while. Then he forgets how to fish and the process starts over? Nah, that's too weird. lol

For years, a few voices in the hunting, trapping and fishing sector have been warning that if we didn't stick together, the anti's would eventually attack even fishing. Most folks choose to live in blissful ignorance, though, with only a small percentage of hunters even belonging to the NRA. I doubt if the fishing sports even have a sportwide (all species), national organization to fight such things.

what do you want to bet that any legislation/executive order would not include keeping the ocean going freighters out of the GREAT LAKES? they are the ones who brought all the parasites-zebra mussels, lampreys here in the first place. i wonder how long it will take before they get around to regulating the amount of shit paper we use, like the weirdo female actress purposed.
